Bay Area Retrofit is a full service seismic retrofit company that provides both engineering and installations.   We have 19 years experience, have designed approximately 7,000 retrofits and installed close to 4,000.  We work very closely with two consulting engineers who we believe are the best in the country.  One even wrote a book on shear wall construction published by the International Code Council.  We seismically upgrade homes and apartment buildings  in Oakland,Berkeley, El Cerrito, San Jose, Albany, Hayward, Fremont, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and the greater San Francisco Bay Area from Santa Rose to Monterey.

Our proposals  include a drawing that details exactly what we plan to do on your house, a narrative report  that explains why we believe you need the retrofit procedures we recommend, and a fully itemized cost estimate for every single component of your retrofit.  This sample proposalillustrates what we offer all free of charge.

We will use the most up to date installation techniques and engineering, be careful with your money to make sure you get the most benefit for the least cost,, and do our best to provide you with the educational material you will need to understand what you are getting for your money.  We will never recommend you do something that is not necessary and will give you good evidence and information of why we believe our recommendations male sense.

Much of that information is on this website.   We believe the information you find here you will provide you the tools to know  more than 99% of the contractors you meet and will be able to make an educated decision regarding who you want to hire.  As pointed out in this New York Times article. this industry is completely unregulated and it is imperative that you educate yourself.  As noted in this article,  extravagant claims have nothing to do with understanding how to do a retrofit properly.
